Have you started to notice fine lines appearing on the surface of your skin or around your mouth? Though these may be caused by smoking or frowning, it’s more likely that these are the result of the natural aging process. If you want to erase these lines or add volume to your lips in a subtle and refined way, you may be a candidate for Juvederm Volbella, available now from the professionals at Spa Black in San Antonio, TX.
What Is Volbella Used for?
Juvederm Volbella is a very popular and effective injectable treatment. It’s used for correcting age-related volume loss in cheeks, lips, and facial skin. There are a number of different kinds of Juvederm on the market. Each one is specifically designed to treat a certain concern. Some are good for the cheeks, other for deep facial folds. If you are interested in fixing issues around the area of the mouth and lips, then Volbella may be the perfect answer for you!
Correcting and Filling Lip Lines
This specific filler is used to fill lip lines that occur around the edges of the mouth. These might be smoker’s lines, or just small lines that naturally occur over time. Because the skin around the mouth is sensitive, these lines are often quite small, and require a refined type of filler for more precise work. With the use of Volbella, our trained professionals can fill in these lip lines in a way that is both effective and naturalistic.
Adding Volume to the Lips
Many people are familiar with the Botox “lip flip” or other injectable methods of creating a plump and youthful look. One of the great things about Volbella is that it is designed for extremely exact work. You might think of it as a painter’s fine brush, perfect for defining and shaping the overall look of the lips. Because of this, we can not only add volume, but exercise extraordinary control over the contour of the lip as well.
Filling in Acne Scars or Similar Marks
Many patients struggle with acne scars or imperfections on their skin. If you are one of the many people who wants to smooth the surface of your facial skin, this may be the perfect filler for you. The composition is ideal for treating delicate areas. It can restore both a smooth skin surface and your confidence!
How Does This Work?
Juvederm Volbella is one of the leading dermal fillers available in today’s market, and millions of patients have tried it and experienced fantastic benefits. The filler works a little differently from Botox. Botox freezes muscles to erase the appearance of wrinkles on the surface of the skin. Juvederm, however, actually increases the amount of hydration under the surface, using a naturally-occurring chemical known as hyaluronic acid.
What Is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid, or HA for short, is a chemical that all of us are born with. It is found mainly in the skin, bones, and joints, where it provides hydration and lubrication. HA accomplishes this by binding to large amounts of water––a single HA molecule can bind to over 1000 times its weight in water! Because of this, it is a natural-looking and organic type of filler.
Why Do We Need More HA Than We Already Have?
We are all born with HA, but unfortunately we start to lose it as we age. Hyaluronic acid breaks down over time. While our body replaces the HA, this does not happen as quickly as it disappears. As a result, the level of HA in our skin gets lower and lower as we age.
When HA breaks down, we start to hold less total water in the skin in our face. This leads to thinner lips, hollow or thin cheeks, wrinkles on the face, and even deep folds near the mouth and nose. Juvederm was created to address these specific concerns by rejuvenating our HA levels in areas that need it most.
How Does Juvederm Work?
Each vial of Juvederm comes with an injectable gel that contains hyaluronic acid, as well as a local anesthetic to make the injection more comfortable. When Juvederm is injected into a target area, the added HA is absorbed by the skin, and naturally start to bind to the water that already exists underneath the surface of the skin. Because of this, most of the added volume is water––not a foreign substance. This helps create the most natural look possible.
What Are the Different Types of Juvederm?
There are several different types of Juvederm you can get, and each one will work on a different problem. Juvederm Ultra, which is also offered by our San Antonio spa, is an excellent choice for those who wish to add volume to the lips or correct deeper lines. It is a somewhat thicker and more viscous gel than other types of Juvederm.
What Makes Volbella Different?
Volbella is different because it uses smaller particles of hyaluronic acid than you would find in other versions of Juvederm. That’s what makes it so good for precision work, such as working near the lips, or filling in the very fine lines that pop up near the mouth. In the hands of a trained professional, the smaller HA particles can be delivered with greater accuracy than ever.
Our Med Spa in San Antonio strives to equip all of our potential guests with the best information needed to make the right choice. We’ve included many of our most popular questions here, but if you don’t see your question answered here, please don’t hesitate to contact our office and let us know!
How Is the Filler Injected?
The filler is injected into your specific treatment area with an ultra-fine needle. The local anesthetic used is Lidocaine, which is included in every vial of Juvederm. This anesthetic helps minimize the discomfort and make the experience easier. In addition, if you wish to have a topic anesthetic, our spa can provide this as well.
What Should I Expect During a Visit to Your San Antonio Spa?
When you arrive at our spa, you will be able to relax and get comfortable. The filler is administered by a trained and experienced professional. After the session, you may receive some additional information that helps you take care of your results in the days and weeks following an injection.
How Long Does the Injection Session Last?
Volbella is a quick treatment, and single visit usually takes less than half an hour. Sometimes, depending on the area being treated, it may be as little as 15 minutes!
Do I Need to Take Time Off Work?
One of the great things about this Volbella treatment is that you don’t need to take time off work. There is no downtime or extensive recovery period with Juvederm. Many patients return to work or their other daily activities right after their appointment with us.
Is There Anything I Should Avoid Before Treatment?
We recommend that patients don’t drink alcohol in the 24 hours before treatment. In addition, if you are taking blood-thinning painkillers like aspirin, we may suggest that you find an alternative in the days before treatment. We also recommend against tanning or undergoing any serious skin treatments during this time frame.
What About After Treatment?
We do advise you to avoid a few things that may impact the quality of your treatment. First of all, it’s a good idea to avoid high amounts of direct heat or exposure to the sun. This may irritate the skin, which can be sensitive after the injection. We also recommend avoiding massage for a few days after the treatment, especially in the treated area, as it may interfere with the balance of the injection. Finally, alcohol should be avoided in the 24 hours immediately after treatment.
How Long Will My Results Last?
Juvederm is highly-regarded by both professionals and by patients because it is one of the longest-lasting dermal fillers available. Different types of Juvederm typically last between one and two years. Patients usually see ideal results from Volbella for a year after their injection session. After this time, you may wish to get a follow-up injection to maintain your results.
How Much Does It Cost?
The exact cost of a treatment will vary, based on the areas that are being treated, and the amount of the Juvederm being used. When you visit our spa in San Antonio, we will discuss your aesthetic goals, and create a pricing plan that works with your budget and the results you want to achieve.
Who Is the Ideal Candidate for This Treatment?
When it comes to this specific filler, the ideal candidate will be looking to add volume to the lips, or soften lip lines or small marks on the surface of the skin. Typically patients are 35 and older, and looking to address age-related volume loss, however the treatment is approved for patients over 21 if they are experiencing issues they would like to correct.
Is There Anyone Who Can’t Get It?
Juvederm works with many skin types and many conditions. However, there are a few patients who should not get this treatment, for medical reasons. Anyone with an allergy to lidocaine will be unable to get treatment, although we may be able to suggest some alternatives that can still help you reach your goals.
We also do not recommend Juvederm for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. No negative effects have ever been noticed as a result of this, but we believe in being cautious in this case.
Botox Stopped Helping Me… Can This Help Instead?
We often encounter patients who have had Botox multiple times, but have discovered that it is delivering diminishing returns for them. In many cases, they seek out Juvederm as an alternative, because it works in a completely different way. Because Juvederm is not a neurotoxin (like Botox) it can often provide results even for those who have stopped seeing a positive benefit from Botox.
